The sapphire apparatus must be coupled with a mirror-like collector to reflect light that would otherwise be wasted. The LED Flashlights can be modulated very quickly so they are used extensively in optical fiber and Free Space Optics communications. This include remote controls, such as for TVs and VCRs, where infrared Cree LED Flashlights are often used..
