korg ade x any suggestion for the performance..??rite now..ade org suggest buat wedding ceremony..but we would also like to know if korg nak buat something else ke..if u do have any suggestion..do give us a shout..or just reply dis post..thanx..
I have suggested somewhere before, but need to mention it here. For a few years now we have shown merely malay culture. Why not incorporate a few other Malaysian cultures, so that our performance is a Malaysian performance, and not Malay students' performance. We have some chinese friends, Indian friends, sabahan friends, et al, why not ask for their ideas too?
My suggestion is, we try to situate our audience as a tourist visiting Malaysia..and a sequence of cultural shows will be something that they can come to expect when they visit our country. Besides, they always put us as the last to perform, so, why not use that opportunity to show how rich our culture is. We can try 'ulik mayang', 'shadow puppet' (what is it in Malay?), for the chinese..maybe 'tarian kipas', dragon or lion dance..if anyone can do it...and of course, we can have an indian dance too.
Or if, the wedding thing is chosen, we can also include a few other Malaysian ethnics attending the wedding..in their own traditional dress.
jem, nak kabo nii... shadow puppet = wayang kulit, if u dont mind... akekeke.. one more thing, dragon or lion dance... bukan 'tiger dance' (actually known as thai-girl dance but sounds like 'tiger' je) ke??? whatever it is, dragon, lion and tiger sama je.. sama ganas.
apa2 pun korang buat la yg terbaik.. pecahkan our dikir barat record. hopefully, i gonna join u all on the international night event.
since you are gonna be here for the International night...so, you je lah jadi pengantin. Ye le...tak sungguh, kata orang, main main pun jadi le..lepas kempunan..he he he. Err...siapa pulak si bride groom nye? Sorry...I am taken already.
Kalau tak pun, you jadi mak cik kecoh. They always have that sort of person in a Malay wedding.
Aa...wayang kulit. Strangely sounds rather sexy...(sorry, just had a blink). I just remember, as a cute little cherub, my dad took me to see a wayang kulit show, but we left because they were really sexist and vulgar. I hope we are not referring to the same wayang kulit.
Not tiger dance...lion dance kan?
Eda, I think you may prefer Boria, cause Nasir wahab, your non-umbilical brother, used to be in a boria competition.
When planning for the international evening, please bear in mind that the performance will be done by amateur volunteers (i.e. kita semua la tu). My suggestion is that don't make it too elaborate or too complicated; we are not a professional dance troup, so we need to be a bit realistic about what we are trying to do.
For example, if we are to showcase Indian or Chinese cultural dances, do we have expertise in our ranks (among Malaysian Soc members) to train the performers? Do we have resources? And do we have able performers?
Secondly, if things are too elaborate and complicated, would the volunteers have enough time to spare for this - given deadlines, coursework and other committments?
My own personal opinion is that if we are going to put up a performance, the performers should have fun preparing for it, and not be stressed about it, else it defeats the purpose.
Having said all that, if we have the manpower, and we have the enthuthiasm, go for it! The Malaysian Soc performances have always been the highlight of international evenings, or so the people at the International Office tell me : so let's make it another show worth remembering!
