the 3rd link tu, sure mamat birm yg tajaan MARA jealous sbb MARA tak sponsor byk spt JPA kot.. after all student JPA pun still tak cukup gak.. tak kira yg single ke or berfamili.. sama je tak cukup.

about keje giler2 sgt tu maybe berlaku kat city yg besar2 je mcm birm, manchester, liverpool dll... duit tak cukup tapi peluang keje sentiasa ada.. why not amik that chance tuk kumpui duit.  tui tak?

cuma kat lancs ni tak la rasanye seteruk itu rakan2 kita mencari duit tambahan.. paling kokak pun keje kat newsagent si farah tu... hahaha.. tak gitu sitah?  bab cuci cuci tu biasa la.. tapi tak la pagi ptg buat keje yg sama.. yg lain2 keje pulun pun just kaum bapa yg tak study.. kira orait la tuh.

depe ni dok komen tapi tak selidik kot brapa elaun yg dpt tu mana cukup.. pehtu nampak org yg keje ni mewah je..ye la.. depe save duit sbb pakai brgan carboot or charity shop je.. beli pun makanan smart price asda je... so ade la duit lebih simpan kot kot nak beli kete utk bawak balik... or saving utk anta ke malaysia.... kalu pi buat groceries kat asda ..yg smart price la.. ahehe.. bole save dlm gbp20-30 pa.. ace pi shopping kat booths or pakcik sains tu... hahh, mau kene dlm gbp50-60 tuk seminggu tuk pakai minum sekeluarga with 2 kids.

dok single pun bole sengkekk.. ni kan pula yg berfamili...   dok hall or sewa pun dah pakai duit elaun 3/4 paa.. lebih tu nak joli2 pun dok kira byk.. takut takleh nak bayar bil telefon.. ahehehe... nak takmo, kene control bil phone je la... tapi telefon tu penting... nak call mak pak.. nak call si anu.. si polann... ye laa kdg2 nak sembang2 release tension jap...  nak pi clubbing mmg laa tak bole... tak nak pun.. ahehehe... kira paling cun pun gi la window shopping wat wat happy tengok brangan sales....

Saya dah suggest kat MIUK, every university buat satu survey yang state the actual cost of living, kita serahkan this memorandum kepada JPA / MARA / whoever, so at least diorang bleh consider adjust allowance etc; or scrap the ruling.

InsyaAllah malam ni saya nak contact beberapa budak UKEC to see if there is anything that can be done on a collective scale.

Greeting from Hollywood,

In my humble opinion, which is rather rare nowadays, there is always another side of the story, but that's besides the point, if this is being written about, there must be an element of truth in it. Having said that, it is difficult to judge because of the different circumstances we are in. I can imagine that this is happenning in big cities like manchester and birmingham, where the cost of living is relatively high and there are a lot of Malaysians there. From my experience, when we had a very large Malaysian community before, there were some people who were like that, and i have heard (not seen) that few undergraduates did drink. The students who worked almost full timely were TESL students, but i could understand their situations, they basically received around £290 per month and half of their pay (and since they were primary school teachers, what they received were peanuts really, and this does not include paying mortgage at home, supporting parents and children etc).

In my case, i started working part-timely for a few reasons: one, USM's allowance is not enough, USM fails to see that for some cases, you have to buy a lot of books, travel to the libraries in other counties etc. I had to use most of my allowance back at home, and my parents contributed when i asked. But at this age i feel rather awkward to ask from my parents rather regularly; two, i like the social aspect of it. I make a lot of friends who are not Malaysians while working. It gives me more chances to practice my language skill and to learn about other people's culture, esp. the local culture. And believe it or not, this is as relevant to me as the books that i read in the library; and there are other personal reasons too.  And i am sure Tuan putri will agree with me.

Next time sadinz, if we have dato or datin as our guests, we should just prepare some 'biscuit kering', so they know what we have to go through. Maybe we can start with Dr. Ghazali first...  (Jangan mare sitah ye)

My opinion is this:

For one to do part-time work is totally up to the individual. Studies always comes first, no matter what.. because that is the main (and only?) reason we come here. I'm sure all of you agree with this.

I agree with what Idlan said, they (people who commented in the paper), should understand the reasons why students do part-time work. carry out a study and analyse the results.. there are so many reasons why and some of them have been mentioned by Abg Jem.

I believe, as long as the students know how to manage their time, they will succeed. but it is a shame if they become 'greedy' and decided to quit their studies.

Whatever the reason is, it is nice to have extra pocket money - for single people like me .. besides getting to know the community (in my case), i can go travel, beli buku, go shopping.. Segan maa.. mintak mak/bapak duit, dah besar!! but research work tetap menjadi pujaan hatiku!!

p/s Abg Jem. First of all, Dr. Ghazali is not a Dato'. and second, he also worked part time when he did his PhD back in the 80's and so does his daughter.

only the latter statement is correct..

*maaf dipinta*

- was talking with my dad over dinner. back in his time, dalam 85/86 gitu, pelajar tidak dibenarkan bekerja. Tapi ini tidak jadi satu masalah atas sebab-sebab berikut (antaranya):

1. allowance cukup, kadar tukaran wang yang rendah

2. duit yuran universiti rendah (berkait dgn point pertama)

3. keadaan yang stabil di Malaysia, i.e. tidak gawat

.:. Perbandingan dulu dan kini .:.

RE: Any comment from Ph.D students??

Referring to the news item at: http://utusan.com.my/utusan/content.asp?y=2004&dt=0720&pub=Utusan_Malaysia&sec=Rencana&pg=re_06.htm yang merupakan komen "Dr. Maimunah Kamarudni":

I received this email on the MIUK list today - reproduced here verbatim:

In a message dated 22/07/2004 13:01:52 GMT Daylight Time,
mnorehan@hotmail.com writes:

Assalamualaikum and Dear All Colleagues,
I, as one of the PhD students in the University of Bristol feel obliged to
comment on the statement written in Utusan Malaysia dated 20th July  2004. As
written in the forum in which an individual declared herself as ‘Dr  Maimunah
Kamarudin’, working as a lecturer in this University, revealed the  way of life
of PhD students in the UK. In relation to that, I would like to  tell
everyone that this fella DOES NOT EXIST in this university, thus this  person has
used pseudonym and also the name of University of Bristol. For  confirmation,
please visit the university’s website, _www.bris.ac.uk_
(
http://www.bris.ac.uk/staff) /staff

or _www.bris.ac.uk/fmd_ (
http://www.bris.ac.uk/fmd)   and search for her
name. Even the name of the course that  she claimed she was teaching in DOES NOT
EXIST!. Therefore, it is clear that  the statement is bogus.
Please forward this information to anyone you know from other institutions
for clarification.
Cheers,
Sincerely,
ZAIDI EMBONG
PhD (student) in Physics,
University of Bristol.

Duit Buku

InsaneBuat penyelidikan ni rasanya bukannya buat benda LAMA-LAMA tapi cari benda BARU-BARU...

Student Head ExplodesYang tersirat lagi susah nak explain compared to yang tersurat...
