Many apologies for being quite late in taking actions on the recent threads. Minds were occupied with other things that require more attention. (well, I am left alone...other members in Malaysia, kesian le kat saya ni...)
FYI, the two threads regarding "quick-rich scheme" have been closed. I have also banned the user's IP from joining our forum board. But in the future I need to be stricter...only valid LUMSS members are allowed to join the forum.
I think what we need is just self-cencorship really. This, in my opinion, is due to the fact that there are some ex-members who still, from time to time, post messages, just to say hi etc.. and it will be lovely to hear from them again.
Having said that, since the responsibility is yours, you should take the appropriate measure to prevent this from happening, and with justifiable reasons, people will have to accept it.
My suggestion is, and I have to admit that I am technologically challenged, perhaps before accepting 'membership' to this forum, you should make it a rule that the applicant sends his or her email address and a bit of necessary details to be verified. 'Membership' to this forum, then, is allowed after the verification, which may take a few days, but hey, that's life.
I am not sure if this can be done via this forum, but if you could approve every person who registers? Most of the time, it is possible to check the email address against the database; but if someone has an email address that isn't on the list, one suggestion which I have used before is that I email the person asking them to identify themselves. In msot cases, when the person is a spammer, they don't reply.

'but if you could approve every person who registers?'
Idlan, the english teacher in me wants to correct your grammar, and this feeling is exacerbated by my cheekiness Hollywood style, which I, shame to say, succumb to most of the time. But as you know, i never apologize for having an opinion.
I think the sentence/question is dangling. Perhaps you can add another clause after the verb registers, like: 'but if you could approve every person who registers, that would be better?'
I supposed that sentence sounded a lot better in my head that it did on paper :D

I noticed that as well. Sometimes, when i read your messages, i have to 're-remember' your intonation, then i would say...ha.. that's what she meant to say.
It's difficult to get it right, with regard to intonation, being a non-native speaker myself. Sometimes, I do find my punctuation marks are inappropriately placed, maybe because our intonation is very much influenced by 1) our native language and 2) our idioscyncracies.
we are all here to learn, and making mistakes is part of a learning process. Most importantly, it reflects our effort to try. So, mistakes are also positive things, if we learn from them.
What is the main objective of our forum on the first place?. Is it to gather friendshipness of the people here or just the chat forum or the forum discussing some issues intelligently (?). There always some boundaries for everything. Rules should be obeyed as its were. Do we need the moderator to set up "DO" and "DON'T" to this forum and (may) be led to some restriction that will happy everybody?.
Sometimes the discrimination can happen-but can be prevented. The Ryan's column last time was became a victim and has been terminated from the forum might be because the moderator to "sensitive" of that (?) issue- I hope Bro Ryan will has NO heart feeling. May be..may be..
Doing something rationally is good but is it going to be better..(or worst).
What is the limitation of our forum ?. Limited to members only (?). Limited the issues (?). Limited the list of forums(?).
Who is the target participant(?). Is it just members (including husband, wife, kids etc..nenek, atuk, abg, kakak dekat kampong?). How about our alumnis (?) ... forget them NOT.
Which is the current forums that beneficial us...just see the topics and contents discussed...judge for youself..

I have another suggestion, to avoid any legal complication, perhaps you can introduce a disclaimer, like : 'The view expressed in this forum does not reflect the society's view', well something like that. Or 'Not for the weak-hearted or squemish', that will be wicked!
May I answer Deedat's question, by virtue of having helmed Malaysian Soc over the last academic year.
The Forum, as per last year, serves the purpose of being a message board - a place for announcements, requests and the like. On the trivial-to-serious spectrum, it leans more towards the trivial end. The underlying intent of its existence is to foster ties between Malaysians at Lancaster primarily, but also as a contact point between current and ex-Lancastrians from Malaysia secondarily. Tertiarily, sometimes outside parties also use it to ask questions pertaining to Lancaster, as we have seen, like Sdra. Jasmin did before coming here.
Discussions about certain issues, which moderators feel would upset the balance of harmony, have been banned / moderated before. Such issues include political opinions, character assasinations and the like. The reason for this is that we are already a small community and in-fighting will not bring good with it. Last year, I did offer for my committee to look into the possibility of setting up a political discussion forum if there was a need, but we did not obtain a positive response.
This does not mean that having political opinions, or indeed strong opinions about anything, is not advocated. It just means that this forum is not the place for it; in the same way that you would not discuss films in a forum related to cars, for instance, even though this does not mean that movie fans do not own cars.
There is a set of guidelines that Masitah and Junaida drew up last year - perhaps we could take a look at it again, Syitah? As for setting up do's and don'ts - there will be no way that such a list will make everyone happy.
Golden rule: Use your common sense, and try not to step on other people's toes. Granted, we may still do it even though we don't mean to, but we can always try.
And if you have a lot of 'issues' you want to tell everyone about and discuss, you can always set up a blog :)

'I hope Bro Ryan will has NO heart feeling' - that is no longer character asperation, its a total assassination! (Assassination and not murder cause I am famous! )
Question: How famous a person should be to be 'assassinated' and not 'murdered'?
Assassination is it the meaning of murdering a famous politician not a famous actor...
Confuse...
Sorry for jabbering in this forum. I'm not have any attention to be a jackanapes. I belief all here are like my kith and kin. Sometimes I am meticulous in given opinion. Misapparehend always happen.
